Indy Achieves | EmployIndy

Every Marion County resident should have access to the most promising jobs of the 21st century. Providing young adults facing the greatest barriers with opportunities to earn educational certifications and employment credentials is how EmployIndy helps create a positive trajectory for young adults to actively participate in the workforce. We do this through Indy Achieves, an EmployIndy-led program that makes the journey easier for Indianapolis families by removing barriers and providing a debt-free pathway to a better future.

Indy Achieves is Mayor Joe Hogsett’s response to Indianapolis’ rapidly changing labor market by ensuring that every Indianapolis resident has the ability to pursue and complete a postsecondary credential or degree program, and empowering residents to pursue careers that put them on a pathway to the middle class.


To completely close the skills gap in Indianapolis, our city would need an additional 215,000 adults with a job-ready credential. Indy Achieves is committed to increasing the proportion of Indianapolis adults with high-quality postsecondary credentials to 65% of residents by 2027, and to eliminating attainment gaps that currently exist for minority residents.

Indy Achieves will focus on two key ways to increase the proportion of adults with the appropriate credentials:

  1. Increasing the number of K-12 students who pursue and complete postsecondary credentials

  2. Increasing the educational attainment level of the existing adult population, meanwhile ensuring more intentional pathways into high-demand careers.

TIF Training Grants

The funding for TIF Training Grants comes from the NextLevel Jobs program, overseen by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. These grantees are reimbursed for their work to hire, train, and retain Indianapolis workers. It removes the financial barriers that many employers face during the hiring process and allows them to provide opportunities for growth and employee success throughout the training process.

The vision behind NextLevel Jobs stems from the need to engage the current workforce and provide individuals with opportunities to grow within their company. In order to receive reimbursement for hiring and training, the employee must stay on for at minimum six months.
