Connecting Young Adults to Employers

Project Indy is comprised of a network of community organizations, employers, and corporate partners who are providing job opportunities, soft-skill development, and job-readiness training to in-school and out-of-school youth in Marion County. The effort is designed to connect employers to young adults for summer jobs, part-time, and full-time opportunities.

Youth employment has immediate benefits that include skill building, career exploration, and the important reward of paycheck. Locally, the effort is also meant to help offer young adults a positive way to spend their time in a productive manner. But youth employment also can significantly affect the long-term career success of a worker. A report from the New Skills at Work initiative of JP Morgan Chase found that teen employment can lead to improved earnings once young people launch their careers in their 20s.

Employers can easily sign up to post jobs into the platform, while young job seekers can sign up for the app, create a profile, and browse jobs nearby using Project Indy’s mobile app, powered by WorkHere. Beyond hiring, employers can also get involved in a variety of other ways, including job shadowing, sharing industry insights with youth, conducting mock interviews, or donating to sponsor a young adult’s job experience.

TIF Training Grants

The funding for TIF Training Grants comes from the NextLevel Jobs program, overseen by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. These grantees are reimbursed for their work to hire, train, and retain Indianapolis workers. It removes the financial barriers that many employers face during the hiring process and allows them to provide opportunities for growth and employee success throughout the training process.

Story of Impact

Increasing Employer and Workforce Engagement

The vision behind NextLevel Jobs stems from the need to engage the current workforce and provide individuals with opportunities to grow within their company. In order to receive reimbursement for hiring and training, the employee must stay on for at minimum six months.
